Britney Spears' Tragic Real-Life Story

June 2024 ยท 2 minute read

It's no secret that Britney Spears and her younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, haven't always had a harmonious relationship. During Britney's contentious period of conservatorship, Jamie Lynn had been chastised by the singer's fan base for not supporting her famous sibling, and even criticizing the #FreeBritney movement gathering steam on social media. Some argued that Jamie Lynn may have had motive, in that she owned a portion of Britney's estate, worth roughly $60 million. In 2020, The Blast leaked court documents indicating Jamie Lynn was added as a trustee in 2018 to Britney's SJB Revocable Trust account, which was originally set up in 2004.

When Jamie Lynn penned her own tell-all tome "Things I Should Have Said" in 2022, Britney was openly livid, accusing her of not only trying to cash in on her own personal misfortune but spreading misinformation about their relationship as well. "I wish you would take a lie detector test so all these masses of people see you're lying through your teeth about me," declared Britney in a since-deleted Instagram post. "You are scum, Jamie Lynn."

The following year, in Britney's "The Woman in Me" memoir, the pop star revealed there was still unfinished business between the two, but the healing process had begun. "She will always be my sister, and I love her and her beautiful family," Britney wrote, per E! News. "I'm working to feel more compassion than anger toward her and toward everyone who I feel has wronged me. It's not easy."
