Fall Outfit Ideas From Copenhagen Fashion Week 2021

June 2024 · 6 minute read

If you ask us, summer always feels way too short. Just when we feel like we're finally making progress and getting good use out of all our warm-weather clothes, a chill hits air, and suddenly, we're forced to stress about fall fashion and transitional style.

The good new is, before the season unofficially begins, there's Copenhagen Fashion Week, where influencers, editors, and those whose job it is to know the hottest upcoming trends step out in inspirational outfits. This time around, we learned a ton of tricks and out-of-the-box ways to style some of what we already own, and even got some ideas for what to add to cart.

Ahead, we're rounding up some fun fall outfit ideas courtesy of show and presentation attendees. Trust us: you'll want to bookmark this one.

Play Around with Proportion

When you're bundling up on cooler days, let a long layer peek out from under your favorite jacket to add some interest to your look.

Add a Statement Sock

We've been loving traditional tube socks, but as '90s trends come back around, the knee-high is also having a moment.

Transition Your Summer Clothes

By now you know: seasonless fashion is the way to go. Make your summer slips work for fall by adding boots and bomber jacket on top.

Focus On a Statement Piece

If you're stumped when picking out your OOTD, start with a pair of printed pants, then keep the rest of your outfit simple and solid to ensure they really pop.

Start With the Basics

Make an everyday solid dress feel special and unique by adding pieces that represent your personal style, such as hoop earrings and over-the-knee boots.

Slip On a Leather Layer

Even a maxi dress receives an toughened-up twist with the help of a leather blazer.

Add a Hat

If your fall outfit feels like it's missing a little something, this accessory has the power to take it to a more fashion-forward level.

Freshen Up Last Year's Pieces

Remember the removable collar trend? Why not layer it over your shirt rather than under to create a whole new vibe?

Say Yes to Sequins

Christian Vierig/Getty Images

Especially during the day. It's an easy yet statement-making switch.

Create Unexpected Combos

Christian Vierig/Getty Images

We're often torn between wearing Y2K trends or keeping thing whimsical, but this cropped cardigan and midi-skirt look proves you don't have to choose.

Bring On the Belts

Christian Vierig/Getty Images

Even Michelle Obama loves a mid-section cinch, and this extra-long option made a simple pairing feel over-the-top (in the best way).

Play Around with Little Extras

Christian Vierig/Getty Images

Such as a small scarf, which can be worn as a hair accessory or tied around your neck, bandana style.

Make It Match

Christian Vierig/Getty Images

We're still not over matching sets, AKA the easiest, pre-made outfit ever. However, instead of sweatsuits, 2021's take is tighter, sexier, and may even include three pieces.

Mix Multiple Seasons

Transitional seasons are rarely easy to dress for. What exactly do you wear when it's 60 degrees outside? This long-sleeved top, shorts, and knee-high boots outfit might be a good place to start.

Switch Up Your Shoes

Christian Vierig/Getty Images

While you may be tempted to wear Mary-Janes or heels with your fall dress, a chunky sneaker can be the piece that makes an otherwise simple pairing feel modern and fresh. And they're pretty comfy, too!

Experiment With Opposites

Christian Vierig/Getty Images

Style your sportiest sneakers with your poufiest skirt or mix leopard with plaid. Fashion is meant to be fun, so play around with combinations that feel drastically different at first. It might just lead you to that lightbulb moment.

Take It to the Extreme

Christian Vierig/Getty Images

After spending so much time indoors, we're no longer holding back. Don't question whether it's too over-the-top to wear sequins with a cowboy hat and textured boots — there's no such thing!

Skip the Shirt

The sexy cardigan, the paper clip top — all the best, Bella-Hadid-approved trends are one-button wonders that require nothing underneath and clearly look great with a pair of jeans.

Add an Element of Surprise

We warned you that dresses over pants were making a comeback, but for in-between temps, you might want to swap your trousers for shorts.

Opt For Oversized

Blazers, sweaters, pants, etc. Then, balance out the bagginess with form-fitting pieces.

Colorblock With Your Coat

Christian Vierig/Getty Images

If you plan to be outside for the majority of the day, stick with an outfit color scheme that coordinates with your coat, turning this traditionally boring piece into a main part of your look.

Ditch the Skinnies

Christian Vierig/Getty Images

We know they're a millennial favorite, and of course they can stay in your rotation. But, should you be in a mood for a change, there are a ton of other denim trends out there — cargo pants, flares, boot-cut, carrot-leg — that you're bound to love just as much.

Pull On a Vest

Christian Vierig/Getty Images

Whether it's knit, structured, or puffy, this small addition may be the piece that takes your outfit to the next level.

Use Puff-Sleeves as a Layer

A large-sleeved shirt is a playful way to make that sleeveless summer dress work for the next few months.

Don't Overthink

Christian Vierig/Getty Images

The classics are classics for a reason, and a white-button-down with jeans and chunky shoes works every time. A printed vest will add an extra splash of oomph.

Reach For a Bold Button-Down

Even if you're out of ideas, something vibrant will enhance your go-to pair of jeans. Keep the accessories to a minimum for a sleek, sophisticated take.

Embrace the Graphic Tee

While a slogan shirt once had a reputation of being juvenile, the new rule is that you're never too old to wear anything. Plus, so many celebrities are loving this throwback trend, you'll definitely want to get on board, too.

Aim for Versatile

If you invested in a pully-top this summer, you don't have to push it to the back of your drawer when the weather turns. Style it over a T-shirt, turtle-neck, or mesh top to make it seasonless.

Dress Down Fancy Piece

Maybe you've always considered that poufy dress your go-to wedding or date night look, but with a pair of pants and sandals, it's now fit for a casual outing, too.
