Ree Drummond's Quick Onion Dip Is an Easy Snack Idea

June 2024 · 3 minute read

It’s always good to have a simple dip recipe in your repertoire and Ree Drummond has a couple of onion dip ideas that take just minutes to make. The Pioneer Woman star has a quick sour cream and onion dip as well as an easy French onion dip recipe.

Ree Drummond’s sour cream and onion dip is ready in 5 minutes

Before you head to the store to buy a container of dip, consider Drummond’s simple sour cream and onion dip recipe, which is an easy homemade alternative.

The recipe is as simple as combining a mayonnaise and sour cream base and adding a handful of flavorful ingredients. What could be easier?

She adds mayonnaise, sour cream, mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, salt, and chopped chives to a bowl and mixes everything together to fully combine the ingredients. Drummond recommends covering and chilling the dip until you’re ready to serve it.

‘The Pioneer Woman’ site has a simple French onion dip recipe

The Pioneer Woman website also has the recipe for a quick French onion dip, which is similar to Drummond’s sour cream and onion dip.

In a bowl, combine sour cream, dehydrated chopped onions, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and parsley. Refrigerate for at least an hour so the flavors enhance and the dried onion softens. According to the recipe, this can be made well in advance and stored in the refrigerator for 5 – 7 days.

The recipe is available on The Pioneer Woman site.

Ree Drummond makes homemade waffle fries to pair with onion dip

While you can easily pour out a bowl of chips to go with her onion dip, Drummond likes to pair homemade waffle fries with it instead. Her thin and crispy waffle fries are a little time intensive, but so worth it.

She uses a mandolin with a crinkle slicer to cut the potato into thin fries. Drummond fries the potatoes in two steps, first adding them to vegetable oil that’s been heated in a pan to 260 degrees, frying them for two minutes. She removes them from the oil and places them on a paper towel-lined sheet pan.

For the next step, Drummond heats the oil to 325 degrees and returns the fries to the pot for three more minutes. After removing them from the oil, she spreads the fries out and sprinkles a “simple seasoning mix” (seasoned salt, paprika, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne) over them.

She mixes up her sour cream and onion dip to serve with the fries. “This dip is the perfect partner for these fries,” she noted on her cooking show.

Ree Drummond’s million dollar dip is a winner

If you’re looking for a cheesier dip idea, Drummond’s million dollar dip recipe is a perfect option. It starts with a cream cheese and mayonnaise base and is loaded with extra delicious ingredients.

She adds sharp cheddar, grated swiss, and blue cheese crumbles to the bowl, as well as bacon, almonds, and seasonings. “This is probably why it’s called million dollar dip,” Drummond shared. “I’m going to add eight pieces of bacon that have been fried crisp and cut really fine into a dice and then some toasted almonds.”

Drummond adds sliced green onions, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper to season the dip, mixes everything together, then refrigerates it for four hours.
